CNC Machining Technique

Below are some commonly used machining techniques. Each of these processes plays an important role in manufacturing the part and enhancing its unique properties.

  • CNC Turning: During turning, the workpiece rotates and the cutting tool is placed on the moving slides and fed into the workpiece to remove material in the desired pattern.
  • CNC Drilling: The drilling process in CNC machining is somewhat self-explanatory. It uses a drill to make precise holes and remove excess material.
  • CNC Milling: This process uses multipoint rotary tools to cut and shape the material. Rotation speed can reach thousands of rpm. In this case, the workpiece will feed to the milling cutter rather than feed the tool to the workpiece.
  • CNC Grinding: A rotating grinding wheel moves over the surface of a part to shape it. The function is somewhat similar to milling, although grinding does not use cutting tools.
  • EDM: Discharge machining, also known as spark erosion, uses electrical discharge to make desired cuts in the workpiece. EDM works well with a part made of conductive material.
