Metal stamping processing technology

Metal stamping is the most common manufacturing method in the mechanical manufacturing industry, and most metal products in various industries are inseparable from metal stamping. The definition of metal stamping is to use stamping equipment to deform a sheet metal into a certain shape or size under pressure, creating components. Below, let me explain its process.

Metal Stamping Processing Stages:

1. Material Blanking Stage: Before metal stamping, the sheet metal needs to be sampled, measuring its dimensions, thickness, and mechanical properties. Generally, ordinary sheet metal can undergo punching and stamping directly. However, for complex products, multiple-stage processes like sheet metal processing are required. In the cutting process, equipment such as steel shears, hydraulic cutting machines, wire cutting machines, and plasma cutting machines are used.

2. Bending and Forming Stage: Bending and forming is one of the core processes of metal stamping. There are various methods for bending, such as bending forming and roll bending. Hydraulic roller presses or bending machines are commonly used in this stage. During bending, strict control of bending angles, curvature, and the risk of bending cracks is crucial to ensure overall performance and quality.

3. Punching, Shearing, and Thread Processing Stage: In this stage of the metal stamping process, the operator performs edge cutting, deburring, punching, and surface processing before moving on to the next step. Equipment such as shearing machines, punch presses, and sheet metal processing tools are used to achieve functions like punching, shearing, and surface processing.

4. Welding and Surface Treatment Stage: Metal stamping requires different treatment operations for welding and surface processing depending on the specific product. Welding methods include gas welding, argon arc welding, and MIG welding, among others. Surface treatments include spraying, electroplating, polishing, and oxidation. Metal stamping operators must choose the appropriate processing methods based on the actual situation and control factors such as welding strength and surface treatment quality to ensure the final product’s quality.

5. Quality Inspection Stage: During the manufacturing process, quality inspection of metal stamping products is essential to identify and rectify any quality issues. Goods must undergo inspection before leaving the factory. Common quality inspection methods include visual inspection, dimension measurement, hardness testing, corrosion resistance testing, fatigue resistance testing, among others.
